NFL added to Union of Concerned Scientists Disinformation Playbook
Chris Borland quit the NFL after just 1 year playing for the San Francisco 49ers. He walked away from a multi-million dollar contract due to his concerns regarding the impacts of concussions on his future health. He is now speaking out for the Union of Concerned Scientists regarding the misinformation spread by the NFL on this topic. The evidence is now clear that repeated head injury is associated with depression, anger, aggression and suicide later in life. Moreover, the younger and the more frequent the injury, the more severe the consequences. It is time for the NFL to get on board the science train and respond with reforms to the game. If it does not, the future of football is at risk. To the extent that it survives, it will be a ghetto for young men with few options or alternative resources.
